    Greenpeace USA (GPUS) is hiring a Web Designer to join our fast-­paced, innovative, and dynamic online team and lead projects within our priority campaigns that will deepen the engagement of our donors, activists, and members in more meaningful ways.     As the Web Designer, you would be on the frontlines of this strategy, working closely with our campaign project teams across the organization, building the website that drives campaign strategy.You would be working closely with our Web Developer to build and update interactive websites, create engaging graphic content on our website, and build out tools to address the needs of the organization.

     

    The role requires a basic overall understanding of digital communications technology (i.e. social media platforms, basic content management systems, CRM’s, SMS, and web management), overall engagement strategies, graphic design experience, and some development knowledge. Some knowledge of HTML and CSS is important, and Javascript is a definite plus. The Web Designer role is an exempt, full time role based in Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA; and will report to the Deputy Digital Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, create, and promote digital materials aimed at supporter engagement for use by Greenpeace USA and other Greenpeace offices around the world, with a specific focus on webpages and websites. 
    • Bring ideas from concept to completion: Create wireframes and user flows to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas. 
    • Participate in and lead cross-­departmental project teams.
    • Work on various websites in both HTML and Wordpress.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum requirements include:

    • Two years experience building and maintaining websites with Wordpress
    • Two years of experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager etc. And testing tools such as Optimizely and Crazy Eggs.
    • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 
    • Relevant combination of education and experience

    Additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:

    • Knowledge of unique specs for various platforms (images designed for websites, facebook, instagram, twitter, etc) including file type, size, image constraints and optimizing images for engagement.
    • Up-to-date with the latest web trends, techniques, and technologies 
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    • Comfort with and enthusiasm for working in a fast-­paced campaigning environment, including juggling multiple priorities and with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
    • Time ­management and organizational skills, including experience with project administration
    • Commitment to people-­powered campaigning/organizing.
