    Greenpeace U.S. (GPUS) is hiring a Mobilization Specialist to join our Grassroots team. This individual will scale up our supporter engagement -- drawing from the organization’s existing base as well as recruiting new members ready to take action. This person will help manage our remote volunteer groups, create deep engagement tactics that allow supporters to take action locally, test out new ideas and tactics, and build up a powerful network of activists across the country to drive forward Greenpeace’s mission.


    The ideal candidate is somebody who is passionate about justice and has a vision for what a decolonized environmental movement looks like. Using new technologies and organizing techniques that allow people-powered campaigns to operate at unprecedented scale, we can rise to the challenges we face.


    This role is an exempt, full time role based in Washington, DC, San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA or Denver, CO. The position will report to the Supporter Mobilization Manager who resides in New York City. The starting salary for this position is $57,000.


    • Innovate and scale up our supporter mobilization work by building volunteer communities and supporting volunteer leaders in building and growing their teams
    • Help shape and drive Greenpeace USA’s mobilization strategy by experimenting with new supporter tactics
    • Move supporters up our “engagement pyramid” by giving them ways to become more deeply involved in Greenpeace’s campaign work
    • Design and oversee A/B tests on Greenpeace’s online-offline organizing work
    • Train volunteers with skills and tactics such as texting, calling, data entry, translation, help desk, event support, etc.
    • Produce volunteer onboarding and training materials, and run training webinars
    • Keep up with industry best practices in distributed organizing and try out new ideas with Greenpeace’s supporter base


    Minimum requirements include:

    • 2-3 years of experience in digital organizing, volunteer mobilization, or field organizing. (Or alternatively, one or more full political cycles)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates, including delegating tasks and accepting delegation from others
    • A deep understanding of online tools like social media, email, and SMS -- and how they can be used to mobilize supporters
    • Ability to see the potential in people, and inspire and coach volunteers
    • Willingness to try new things and learn from both failures and successes
    • Ability to be agile and responsive to rapidly evolving events
    • A strong commitment to building a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive movement
    • Passion for mobilizing people and building power for progressive movements


    Additional qualifications for this role include, but are not limited to:

    • Experience with the following tools: Relay, Mobile Commons, or other SMS tools; EveryAction or other CRMs; Action Network, Control Shift, or other distributed organizing tools
    • Experience designing and delivering trainings and/or webinars
    • Experience collaborating with coalition partners
    • Experience managing volunteers, working with and leading a variety of people and groups
